Museums Management and Promotion of their Sustainable Development

Overall Program Description

The program is designed to convey the modern approaches to museum management and promotion of their sustainable development. In fact that, Russian museums have outstanding cultural and historical treasure but rarely their managers have knowledge and skills of modern management founded on sustainable development concept.
By this program, they will familiarize with modern approaches of museums management, including issues of internal and external resources of museum; research museums’ target audiences and their special needs (in particular needs of disabled people); possibilities of information technologies for museums development and promotion.
The program is designed for a total of 20 hours, consisting of 5 videoconferences.
The lectures, accompanied by PowerPoint presentations, video clips and PDF document files, will be delivered through the multimedia classroom of Saint-Petersburg State University – Regional Saint-Petersburg GDLN Center and can be attended via the multimedia tools. This way, by proper announcements to the SMEs worldwide, the course can reach to a very large audience in a relatively short time.
Those SMEs within the vicinity of video-conferencing facilitated classrooms at the GDLN Participant countries can attend the lectures in an interactive manner. Due to limited time for the preparation of the course and consideration the project budget, the lectures will be given by local experts in the first iteration.

Mode of delivery: Program will consist of 5 modules, each having 3-4 hours including 2 hours off-line work in the class room including one coffee break 15 minutes and 2 hours lecture and discussion by videoconference.
Complete workshop containing the following activities: discussing of case studies, exchange of views concerning home works, materials of handouts etc. The off-line stage’s goal is provide the course’s participants with possibilities to exchange of views regarding the session subject into the GDLN site directly.
The VC stage is intended for presentations of experts; participants’ questions to them and exchange of views regarding the lesson subject among GDLN Centers. Lectures and discussions will also be made a sound recording of CD and present participants via PC in case of need. Each module will be scheduled as 2+2 hours on one day.

The series of videoconferences will be scheduled on a one module per week basis. The leading Center will prepare Handout of Museums Management and Promotion of their Sustainable Development.
The Handout will contain information for each session: descriptions of case studies, articles, questions for discussions, home works corresponds with each session topic, also the Course Curriculum, Introductions of the Course’s lectures and participants.
